the cottonmouth and water mocassin refer to the same animal.
The common term, especially in the South, is Cottonmouth. It's also well known as a Water Mocassin.
Iam from Louisiana, and I definitely can learn ya about some water mocassin. The water mocassin's fffffffffavoriate meal is the Yellow Belley Sapsucker. But if there is none near by, he will settle for a tripe or hedgehog. That's if there isn't a bunch of Snipe close by. then its SOL for the water mocassin.

Cottonmouth
The Cottonmouth snake (Agkistrodon piscivorus), also known as the Water Moccasin.
It has a dry mouth.
Water Moccasin
The cottonmouth eats a lot of different prey. The diet includes other snakes, fish, lizards, turtles, frogs, small birds and alligators and mammals. It doesn't swallow its prey until it is dead, a behavior seen when the prey is held in the snake's jaws until it finally succombs to the venom. Prey that is likely to bite back is first struck and then released to avoid eventual attacks. Howeveer, if the prey flees the cottonmouth is able to track and hunt down the escaped prey.
The Cottonmouth - a highly-venomous species.
The difference between a mailman and water is water can be bottled and a mailman can't.
