No, they are equivalent degrees in terms of having doctorate. It's just that they are different. An MD is a medical doctor (physician) in which there are many specialties. A OD is a doctor specific to optometry (sight and vision) who prescribes lenses, and other types of treatment.

An OD is a Doctor of Optometry. You may be referring to a DO which is a Doctor of Osteopathy. The MD and DO are equivalent degrees. It's just that each has it's own approach and focus to patient care and treatment. Typically the DO has a more holistic approach, and focuses on the human body to heal itself. They look at the patient as a whole person rather than just the parts of a person.
