When you slice a freestone peach, the fruit comes away from the stone easily. You cannot "twist open" a cling peach without making an enormous mess. Also remember that cling peaches are usually a lighter color than a stone on the inside.

What is weird about a peach?

Nothing is weird about a peach. They are delicious. Most kinds require 45 days of below freezing weather. They generally have two blooms. Sometimes there is a freeze that kills the first bloom and only the second bloom produces fruit. Sometimes a freeze also kills the second bloom. Inside the seed is the pit from which the new plant grows. The pit contains cyanide. It is poisonous. It has been touted in alternative medicine as a cancer cure. The cyanide has killed many people. They have not complained and demanded their money back. Peaches are called free stone and cling stone. Freestone peaches peel away from the seed without difficulty. Clingstone peaches are hard to remove from the seed. A peach without fuzz is called a nectarine. Sometimes a good looking girl is called a peach.
