They are articular cartilage, which covers joint surfaces, fibrocartilage, such as the small amounts of cartilage between the vertebrae in the spine, and elastic cartilage, such as the outer part of the ear. Ligaments are strong bands of connective tissue that bind bones together at the joints, such as the wrists, knees, and ankles.
