What is the difference between a data card and an usb modem?
First you must have a modem connected to your PC. The phone cord is than connected to your modem. Once this is done than you must dial out to a modem connected to you office PC (or office network modem). Think of the connection much the same way phones between homes are connected. The only difference, in a simple way, is the modem is the communication tool between your home and office computer.
If nothing else is connected to the modem you can use a ethernet cable to connect the ps2 to the modem and the internet. If you also have a PC then you need to put a router between the modem and PC and also connect the PS2 to the router which will allow both the PC and PS3 to work off the same modem

A USB modem plugs into your USB port.A "normal" modem plugs into your RS232 port or your parallel port.
a wireless router is needed when internet modem doesn't have wireless capability.
Port speed is how fast the computer talks to the modem. Modem speed is how fast the modem talks across the phone line to the other modem.

In Bridge mode, creditials are stored on a pc and you would need to click on connection icon / connection to establish the connection KK@Melbourne
The difference between a Lan Card and a modem are this - A Lan card is a card that you slide into the side of a laptop and it can allow you the ability to get onto a network wirelessly. A Lan card for a PC allows a Lan connection by way of a CAT 5 cable that will allow you to get onto the internet or if a crossover cable is attached to your PC to another you are directly connected to the network. A modem is a piece of hardware that is installed into a slot in the PC that will allow you the ability to get onto the internet by attaching a phone line to it through the RJ 11 jack (which it comes with 2 rj11 jacks on it) See the links below: LAN card http://www.socketcom.com/product/wlan.asp , Modem http://www.webopedia.com/TERM/m/modem.HTML
An internal modem is housed within the main computer. An external modem is on the outside of the computer and connected to the computer with a cable.
There is a difference if you are using a low quality router. For good routers you will not notice any difference. Usually there is no difference at all.
MAC/PC/printer to router. Router to modem. Modem to wall/internet. Wired or wireless router is optional, same principle.
