They both lead to the same position. For those who do not have a degree, taking the degree would be a better option. Today, organizations - to include medical facilities - prefer individuals with a degree. The certificate program - although not necessary in some cases - is typically designed for individuals who already have an existing degree and wish to supplement that degree with a certificate program of study. This bypasses the required general education courses required for the degree option. One word of warning! Whatever your choice is, stay away from private institutions that do not have the appropriate accreditation. Evidently, they will be accredited by some agency, however the accreditation you are looking for is the regional accreditation. All valid colleges and universities within the United States have this accreditation. If it does not, I would recommend you find another institution that does.

Difference The difference between a certificate and diploma Associate's is that you can get the certificate while you are pursuing your GED in the first year of college. Depending on the field you want the certificate in, it takes a few months to complete and get the certificate and you can start working in the field you want, and you pursue it at the same time you pursue your GED. An Associate's degree takes two years of college, 1 and half if you have residency in the state you are attending college. Meaning the first year of classes, you take classes to get that certificate and take general education classes at the same time. when you get that certificate, you can start looking for a job in that field and still be going to school at the same time. You will be working at that job while pursuing the next level degree, and it continues like this so on. If you want to get your degree as fast as possible and have a decent job in the career field that you want quickly, I would suggest going to college in your home town or where you are living and have been living for over a year or more (residency). residency means you can take the maximum load of classes in the college, so you could get your general education, certificate if you want, and Associate's degree faster. You can start community college in your senior year of High School, and just imagine, you can start working as a surgical technician as soon as you come out of High School! My point is you should not waste time for college because I mean it's up to you; would you rather have to work at McDonald's or Walmart until you get your degree, or start working an interesting job right out of High School! These things they don't tell you at school, trust me. I would get interested and go talk with my nearest community college if I was you, and most of the time they have financial aid for community college, I didn't pay any money at all to go to community college. Trust me, at a university, they make you take the exact same classes for your first two years to get your GED, but at the university, the tuition is to high (thousands of dollars), but at community college, I only payed $20 per class per semester, my yearly tuition cost was only like $325. There is nothing bad about going to community college, in-fact many of my friends who were accepted at universities like UC Irvine and CSUN (out of High School) decided to go to community college first to get their GED because it was much less expensive, and they did not regret their decision! Remember, nothing wrong with taking the bus, normal people take the bus, and if you live in California where it's sunny all the time, you can bike. Also, remember when deciding your career, you should evaluate yourself and decide what you can do and what you like to do. I can tell you almost everybody says that they want to be a doctor, or they want to be a surgeon or a lawyer; but they only say it because they are popular jobs among the media where they are glamourized as they great jobs that pay lots of money. They do pay lots of money, but these jobs require years of schooling, high stress, extremely good verbal skills (especially lawyers who have to convince many people in a court room everyday possibly), hard andd joyless work, doing lots of things you don't want to do, and basically no free time for yourself or to enjoy the money you make. For example, a surgeon has to open people up with surgical instruments and implement the most careful of care. Can you cut open someone's body and watch the blood flow out out and the organs pumping and belching blood everywhere? Can you take the responsibility of carefully cutting the organs, removing them manually and being careful as to not damage an irreplacable organ? Are you easily disgusted? Can you keep control in a high pressure and stress work environment? Even though surgeons make $320,000 a year and more, they are on call all the time, and never have any free time for themselves. You should learn more about the careers you're interested in before you jump the gun. Another example, if you want to be lawyer, you are basically a philosopher of law, and you must have good acting skills. You meet with a client, use the best of your knowledge of the legal system to take the best course of legal action next, then you make a presentation for court. You have to convince the people of the court that your client is in the right in the case; you stand up, walk around and talk clearly and with much confidence that your client should win the case, but again, it's also not that simple. You can also work up to 90 hours a week and more, and you have to be very interested in law if you want to do this. If you want to be a doctor, you have to like people. People will come to you in the worst condition, and not all of them are likeable, you have to treat them even if they are bad people. You have to comfort them when they are ill and you have to discuss with them all their treatment options and anything that can be done. You have to tell family members when their loved one has died. You give people shots, diagnos illnesses, perform physicals on people of all ages, write up prescriptions, you do minor surgical procedures. You monitor people's charts and stuff and supervise nurses and assistants to make sure they are taking care of patients. You stand by patients to ask what they want or need and ask them if they still have any pain. You do lots of work that requires direct contact with blood, you need to have a vast knowledge of medicine, the human body, and treatments. You have to be a very humanitarian, person with a lot of patience, good verbal skills, be able to work long and irregular hours, be careful with medical equipment, deal with high stress, and and most of all know how to treat people. The benefits of these jobs however are that they pay lots of money, they can afford extremely good living, and the job market for all these jobs is the best because they can never have enough doctors, nurses, or lawyers. If you like any of these fields, then they are the perfect field for you.
