There were many differences between Iguanodon and Tyrannosaurus rex. Here are just a few.

1. T-rex were carnivorous, lizard hipped dinosaurs (lizard hipped means that the pubis bone in the pelvis points forward). They always walked on their hind legs, and had rudimentary forelimbs. They were much larger than Iguanodon, and had a larger head in comparison to their body size.

2. On the other hand, Iguanodon was an herbivorous, bird hipped dinosaur (bird hipped means the pubis bone in the pelvis points backward). Iguanodon had smaller forelimbs than hind limbs, but they walked on all fours, unless they needed to run from a predator, in which case they would run on hind legs. They had a large thumb spike which they may have used to defend themselves from predators.

Both Iguanodon and Triceratops were plant eating dinosaurs belonging to the order Ornithischia, the so-called "bird-hipped" dinosaurs. They both walked on four legs, although Iguanodon could walk on only two legs, and they both had keratinous beaks. They were similar in length, with Iguanodon being 33 to 43 feet long and Triceratops being 30 feet long. They also both lived during the Cretaceous period, although they didn't live at the same time, with Iguanodon living during the early Cretaceous 125 million years ago and Triceratops living at the end, around 65.5 million years ago. Of course, there are far too many similarities to list, like the fact that they are both dinosaurs, they are both animals, they are both vertebrates, etc. but those are some of the ones that come to mind.

  1. Tyrannosaurus rex was much larger than Allosaurus. Allosaurus was big, at about 28 to 32 feet in length, and weighed 1,500 to 2,200 lb. Tyrannosaurus, however, was 40 feet long and weighed between 12,000 and 15,000 lb.
  2. Allosaurus could hear low frequency sounds and had a good sense of smell, but Tyrannosaurus had much more advanced sensory systems. Tyrannosaurus's olfactory region of the brain was huge, meaning it could probably smell carrion from miles away, similar to vultures. The eyes faced forward, giving it excellent binocular vision. They also had a good sense of hearing, especially for low frequency sounds.
  3. Allosaurus had three fingers on each hand, and much larger arms relative to its body than Tyrannosaurus. They also had larger crests above each eye than Tyrannosaurus did. Tyrannosaurus, however, had a much stronger bite force than Allosaurus.
  4. Although they both lived in North America, Allosaurus lived between 155 and 150 million years ago, and Tyrannosaurus lived between 67 and 65.5 million years ago.
