The difference is that in acclimatization the process of change occurs in a shorter period of time.for example animals shed more hair if their moved to a region where the seasons are alot warmer.Or produce more fluids during the hot season while they didn't do any of these things in their past habitats. Now natural selection occurs over generations where creatures with the traits that help more to survive stay alive and reproduce which makes the whole pack of animals evolve over time in order to survive.Survival of the fittest.

Lamarck's theory of inheritance of acquired characteristics refers to physical changes throughout life. Take a giraffe. A population of giraffes live in the same area. They start to eat the leaves off the trees. As they continue eating, the bottom leave disappear and the giraffes have to be able to stretch to get the higher leaves. As the giraffes stretch, their necks become elongated and this elongation is passed on to successive generations. This would apply to anything from cosmetic surgery to tattoos. Any physical changes in the parents would be passed on to offspring.

Darwin and Wallace's theory of Natural Selection focuses on the genetic basis of evolution. Take the same example of the giraffe. They have the same problem, but there is variation within the population. Some giraffes have shorter or longer necks. The ones that have longer necks are able to reach the higher leaves and thus have a higher chance of survival and reproduction. The genes for the longer necks will then be passed on to offspring and become a dominate feature within the species. Natural Selection focuses on the genetic variation within a species.

Acquired trait - is one that is not determined by genes but instead it arises during an organism's life as a result of the organism's experience or behavior.

Genetic trait - A physical characteristic brought about by the expression of a gene or many genes. Examples of traits are height, eye color, and the ability to roll your tongue.

What is the main difference between natural selection and genetic drift?

The main difference to remember is that natural selection is a nonrandom process while genetic drift is a random process.

What is the difference between sexual and natural selection?

Natural selection is survival of the fittest, while sexual selection is a preference for a given trait made by the limiting sex. It is strangely, but usually in opposition to natural selection (E.G., male peacock's tail feathers that garner attention from predators and prevent the peacock from fleeing well).

What is the difference between artificial selection and natural selections?

natural selection occurs due to natural phenomena (e.g. changes in diet or predators).artificial selection occurs due to human generated phenomena (e.g. breeding or domestication).

What is the relationship between adaptation and natural section?

Here is a quote: "The relationship between adaptation and natural selection does not go both ways. Whereas greater relative adaptation leads to natural selection, natural selection does not necessarily lead to greater adaptation." I do not recall who said it, but this is what the relationship between both is. Here is a quote: "The relationship between adaptation and natural selection does not go both ways. Explain the difference between artificial and natural selection?

Artificial selection is anthropogenic -- humans interfere with nature to determine what traits get passed on, whereas natural selection is when through sexual reproduction the traits passed on are determined by survival of the fittest.

What is the relationship between evolution and natural selection?

Natural selection is one force that can lead to evolution.natural selection is one cause of evolution

Why do populations of asexually reproduced organisms show little variation?

There is no natural selection and therefore no evolutionary need for a difference between genders.

Is artificial selection and natural selection the same at the molecular level?

Technically, yes, but only because they are using virtually the same processes, the only real difference between the two, is like the difference between choosing your own mate and having someone choose your mate for you.

Natural selectionwhat are some of the similarities and differences between artificial and natural selection?

Natural selection is more efficient ad more precise.

What is the difference between natural and artifical selection?

Natural selection - is allowing the species to breed at their own convenience - with whichever member of the opposite sex they choose. Artificial selection is human intervention in that natural process - allowing breeders to choose the best genes for the species.

What makes natural selection happen?

Natural selection is driven by differences in reproductive success between variants within the same population.
