What is the difference between adsl and broadband?
Broadband which is also most commonly refered to various forms of DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) (or known as xDSL where x represents the many forms it has) vary from ADSL which is one of its various forms only by the uploading speed.
ADSL refers to the term "Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line". Through its name itself it implies that the connection is asymmetric, meaning that the uploading speed and downloading speed differs from each other. In ADSL the uploading speed is much lower than the downloading speed where as in broadband (or DSL) the uploading speeds and down loading speeds are very much the same.
When considered in terms of price DSL connections fetch a higher price in the market compared to ADSL connections simply due to its higher uploading speed. ADSL connections are best applied in situations where there is a high demand for downstream data than upstream data but is not suitable for interactive systems that require data to be transferred both ways (upstream and downstream). For such cases DSL is the most suited.
ADSL is a broadband or fast internet connection which runs above your telephone line making for much higher broadband speeds and download times are greatly reduced when using ADSL rather than a dialup connection which is typically much slower than ADSL and causes your computer to disconnect when your telephone rings as the connection to the internet is made through and along your telephone line so that you cannot use them both together .

You need to check what the 'broadband light' means. If it means synchronisation then it means that the ADSL (asuming its adsl) signal is not getting to the router. You need to buy an adsl router. Connect your modem to the router then connect your two computers using rj45 (ethernet) cables or usb. Some routers need to be a modem router which renders your broadband router useless. Some broadband companies require you to register every PC used on the network sharing the internet.
