What is the difference between alternate and alternative?
'Alternative' suggests a substitute whereas 'alternate' suggests a variation in sequence.

2 wire has a live wire to energise the field where as the singlewire alternator self energises and does not need the powered feed.
Answer . I think an alternator changes the power fom dirrect or alternating, or the opposite dunno about a generator. Some added information: both the generator and the alternator take mechanical energy from the engine and convert it to electrical energy to charge the battery and to supply the e…lectrical loads of the vehicle.. The alternator does this by rotating a magnetic field created in a moving rotor coil through the stationary windings of the stator field. the generator does this by having a stationary magnetic field winding be intercepted by the rotating wires of the armature.. In both machines, the output is intially alternating current. In the case of the generator this is rectified to DC by the switching action of the commutator. In the case of the alternator it is done through the use of silicon diodes.. The typical alternator is a 3 phase machine meaning that it has three separate windings in the stator that output pulses every 120 degrees of rotation.. the automotive industry switched to alternators in the early mid 1960's once silicon diodes became inexpensive and available. The result was better charging performance at idle and substantially longer service life. the alternator is also superior in that it can have an output of typically 100-150 amps while the generators in common use were usually less than 50 amps. Alternators are also lighter and easier to package on the engine. ( Full Answer )
In a generator, an armature is spun inside a magnetic field. The armature consists of several coils which generate electrical energy as they spin through the magnetic fields. "Brushes" (electrical devices to transfer the electrical energy from the moving armature) conduct the electrical energy to a …wire. The strength of the electrical output can be controlled by varying the strength of the stationary magnetic field that is OUTSIDE the spinning armature. If that magnetic field is to be changed, it typically must be an electromagnetic. An ALTERNATOR is exatly the opposite. The brushes make contact with two spinning rings. The rings are connected to coils, and when voltage is applied the armature (in the case of an alternator it is called a "rotor") becomes a spinning electromagnet. A stationary coil or set of coils, depending on the complexity of the armature, generates electrical current as the magnets pass by. An alternator produces "alternating current" electricity which must be converted to "direct current" in the case of automobiles. The conversion is relatively simple, using what is called a "diode plate", which is as the name suggests, a collection of diodes. ( Full Answer )
A direct current flows only in one direction. An alternating current changes its direction of flow in a regular (cyclic) way, all the time and usually several times per second. Other answers An alternating current (AC) is an electrical current whose magnitude and direction vary cyclically, as …opposed to direct current, whose direction remains constant. The usual waveform of an AC power circuit is a sine wave, as this is the way the electricity is generated in the power plants. It also allows us to efficiently transmit the energy by transforming it to a higher voltage. Alternating current is an electrical current whose magnitude and direction vary cyclically. The direction of direct current remains constant. The frequency of the electrical system varies by country. Most electric power is generated at either 50 or 60 Hertz (cycles per second). In electronic equipment, different waveforms are used, such as triangular, sawtooth or square waves, the latter form being the "heart and soul" of digital computers and modern communications. During just one cycle of a single-phase alternating supply, the "live" or "hot" wire of an alternating voltage (or current) supply goes from zero to its positive peak, then back to zero, then continues on to its negative peak and back to zero again. These positive- and negative-going parts of each cycle are always voltages (or currents) relative to the "neutral" wire. A neutral wire is necessary to allow the currents to return to the alternator. In a 60 hertz supply there are 60 such cycles in each and every second. Similarly, there are 50 such cycles in each and every second in a 50 hertz supply. The voltage in the "live" or "hot" wire usually follows a waveform very close to a perfect sine wave. Depending on the voltages and currents required, alternators can be, for example, very large power generating machines installed at power stations or the much smaller type of alternators which are fitted into vehicles. AC, or Alternating Current, does exactly what the name implies. In USA, Canada - and in other countries which use the same service frequency - the direction of the current changes 60 times a second (also called a frequency of 60 Hertz) between the 'Hot' (also known as the 'Live') wire - often colored Black - and the Common (also known as the 'Neutral') wire, which is usually colored White. In Europe and many other areas of the world, the service frequency is 50 times a second (50 Hertz). It is the service frequency which makes the typical "humming" sound you hear from transformers or electric AC motors when they are running. The good link below "AC, DC and Electrical Signals" gives a lot more information about the difference between alternating current and direct current. Direct Current and Alternating Current: The first and simpler type of electricity is called direct current, abbreviated "DC". This is the type of electricity that is producedby batteries, static, and lightning. A voltage is created, andpossibly stored, until a circuit is completed. When it is, thecurrent flows directly, in one direction. In the circuit, thecurrent flows at a specific, constant voltage (this isoversimplified somewhat but good enough for our needs.) The other type of electricity is called alternating current, or"AC". This is the electricity that you get from your house's walland that you use to power most of your electrical appliances.Alternating current is harder to explain than direct current. Theelectricity is not provided as a single, constant voltage, butrather as a sinusoidal (sine) wave that over time starts at zero, increases to a maximum value, then decreases to a minimum value, and repeats. Answer . Conventional medicine (also known as empirical medicine, scientific medicine and western medicine) is medicine which has been shown to work under strict scientific tests, has known mechanisms, and has usually been developed after years of extensive research. Alternative medicine does not… always follow the above criteria. Opponents of AM say that any benefits are the result of the placebo effect . . Answer . The above is an obvious answer from an industry team player who is threatened by the growth of alternative medicine. The Difference: alternative medicine has existed for thousands of years with rarely any side effects, but the industry which ironically calls itself "conventional" medicine is the number 3 killer in the United States. So you like science? Me too! Lets review some empirical scientifically verifiable facts. Based on the 2000 U.S. census -- doctors are 9,000 times more deadly than guns: * The number of physicians in the US is 700,000. * Accidental deaths known to be caused by physicians per year are 120,000. * Accidental deaths per physician are 0.171, according to the US Department of Health and Human Services. (This means that your doctor has a 17% chance of accidentally killing someone with medicine this year.) * The number of gun owners in the US is 80,000,000. * The number of accidental gun deaths per year is 1,500. * The number of accidental deaths per gun owner is 0.0000188. Statistically, doctors are 9,000 times more dangerous than gun owners. Not everyone has a gun, but almost everyone has at least one doctor. Please alert your friends to this alarming threat. We must ban doctors before this gets out of hand. As a public health measure, I have withheld the statistics on lawyers for fear that the shock may cause people to seek medical attention. The difference is simple. Alternative medicine cures, while conventional medicine (drugs) suppress symptoms so that the root problem worsens over time. If you ever find a drug ad in a magazine, it usually covers one side of the page with a big picture, but flip it over, and the whole other side is covered in SIDE EFFECTS. A whole page in little tiny font. That new drug Vytorin which supposedly lowers cholesterol, was proven to actually INCREASE blood plaque, and do absolutely nothing to reduce cholesterol.. Answer: . Empirical medicine is homeopathy and naturopathy. Use of ancient, observed single-blinded experimental, time-honored medical treatments. Most homeopathy / naturopathy medical textbooks are more than 100 years old. In empirical medicine / homeopathy / naturopathy the scientific reason why treatments work is not as important as knowing that they have scientifically / experimentally observed to have worked (for centuries).. Allopathic medicine is the use of cutting (surgery), poisons (patentable potions / drugs), and burning (radiation / microwave oblation) to treat symptoms of disease.. Allopathic doctors took over organized medicine in America. How? Their wealthy financial backers (Rockefeller, Rothschild, Kettering, Sloan, Carnegie, etc) politically lobbied (and bribed) the US Government for and got other forms of medicine to be declared illegal. The AMA Inc., Rockefeller, and Canegie foundation funded the Flexner report of 1910 that suggested anything but allopathic medicine be abandoned, that medical schools should be associated with universities, and that the universities be well funded by monies from the rich tycoons of the day (or their foundations). Enforcement agencies such as the AMA Inc., FDA, and FTC now largely restrict health freedom in America so that only approved allopathic medical treatments can be legally used, manufactured, sold, or publicized (talked about).. Parts of the US constitution are overthrown by jailing persons who make medical health claims (free speech) that are true, but "not yet proven" in highly financially sponsored and approved clinical trials conducted by using AMA- and FDA-certified methods and personnel. The result is a suppression of medical misinformation -- blocking competition by making the approval process so prohibitively expensive. Rockefeller and drug companies could then sell patentable, profitable pharmaceuticals to build wealth. Graduates of Rockefeller-Standard Oil / Carnegie foundation funded universities would then argue against anything not taught to them in their schooling or published in journals where they were involved as advertisers, subscribers, or publishers.. Alternative medicine makes use of any seemingly useful non-allopathic medical treatments possibly involving any other forms of medicine like chiropractic, Chinese, electro-medicine, acupuncture, un-approved / off-book allopathic treatments, etc.. One such example is the off-book use of EDTA chelation therapy to treat vascular disease, Alzheimer's, chronic kidney disease, diabetes -- known by many experimental practitioners to work, but falsely ridiculed and denounced by junk scientific studies conducted using funds from opposing financial interests such as surgical medical practitioner's unions and drug companies. These junk science studies have been critically reviewed as such, but the junk none the less appears in the Pub-Med displayed listings about chelation and vascular disease treatment. Critiques of the various junk studies are not allowed to be published in the originating journals to debunk them. On the one hand, EDTA was FDA approved from its late 1930s inception from Germany for safe, effective treatment of one disease (metal poisoning), but not the other health treatments benefits that it had also laid claim to have. The only distinguishing trait of the unapproved use therapies was that they represented competition to established industry / financial concerns whose income streams would be disrupted if alternative treatments were permitted: lavishly expensive bypass surgery was an already approved method of treating vascular disease; artificial kidney dialysis could chronically treat that disease; and insulin could treat diabetes for a lengthy period, before destroying the patient. In each case, these techniques were merely acts of symptom suppression, and therefore provided the establishment with perpetual repeat patients needing further ever increasingly expensive procedures. They create exactly the same sort of addictive dependency that narcotics traffickers do, except in the case of medicine, this dependency is ultimately life threatening, in addition to always decreasing the quality of life. . Laetrile / amygdalin / Vitamin B17 is another example of alternative medicine treatment methods for cancer that have been outlawed because MSK had 3 Rockefellers on the board of directors where 4 internal studies showed the natural substance was effective, and one questionable outside study found it no more effective than saline solution (except for reporting the unusually high 40% cure rate for saline!). You see, as a natural non-synthetic substance, amygdalin cannot be patented -- so no profits can be made by making it, prescribing it, or treating patents with it -- not to mention that the cure rate was too high to create a perpetual income stream for hospitals, doctors, and drug companies.. In many areas of science there are people who cling to ideas taught to them in school where they were indoctrinated to think "inside the box." These people who are supposedly trained in the sciences rarely conduct any experimentation on their own, but rather rely on heavily edited journals that restrict their science study articles to only those that support status quo paradigms.. Our so-called "science" is for sale. Those who fund the experiments get the verifications they need to push sales and keep out competition. Should a study be headed in an undesired direction or have undesired results, it is buried and left unpublished -- or else those involved publicize the results and are de-funded from further research work and denounced as fringe / mad / unreliable / fired / conspiracy theorists / paranoid / alternative therapist (no longer a medical scientist or doctor).. J.P. Morgan did not like the direction Nikola Tesla was going, so Tesla was de-funded. Because of the profit motive, many scientific ideas and experiments of Tesla (and many other people) are not taught in schools or universities, or will ever see their way into the open market -- into the mainstream. After his mysterious demise, and the equally mysterious disappearance of his notebooks, Teslsa's peers reported that had been on the brink of refining techniques for providing almost limitless free electricity, and the transmission of it without the need for a line-based grid infrastructure. The world would be a completely different place if Tesla had not been "dealt with". The same thing is regularly happening with medical research.. Alternative medicine proponents are not interested if you have large amounts of health insurance, but allopathic doctors are! Without it, they cannot charge you copious amounts of money for dubious surgeries and medications. Ever heard of harmful drug side-effects that were kept secret by their manufacturers?. This "science" of this $multi-billion industry is done by staging, screening, selecting, or otherwise structuring the research to come to the foregone conclusions that are required by the sponsors of their studies. A clinical study does not have to be double-blind. It can be single-blind and be fine. A study can be junk if under-dosed or overdosed or if conflicting substances are given to the patients. Much of the original negative study results involved these methods to discredit Laetrile and other useful naturally occurring substances. Moneyed science fraud should be punished, especially if it costs millions of lives. ( Full Answer )

Yes, there is a difference between changing the alternator in a 2.3L grand am than there would be in a 2.4L grand am, because it needs a more powerful alternator to turn over the engine
The 'starter' actually turns the flywheel, enabling the car engine to start. The 'alternator' supplies AC & DC current to the electrical components of the engine and vehicle.
A generator generates Direct current electricity An Alternator generate alternating current In a car this current is run through rectifiers or diodes to convert it into DC.
Generator is the general term for mechanical devices that make electricity. Source: Webster's Revised Unabridged Dictionary (1913). Alternator is a type of generator. It is one of the most efficient, light and durable. Ideal for use in the automotive industry.. A Generator (dynamo) produces DC dir…ect current, An alternator produces Alternating curent whih is then converted into DC current with rectifiers/diodes as used in cars. When cars had generators (dynamos) in them you could test them by running a current into them and if they were ok the would turn like an electric motor. ( Full Answer )
Direct current means that the current flows in only one direction. Alternating current means that the current is constantly being reversed back and forth on a periodic basis. More detailed answer Direct current (dc) flows only in one direction and alternating current (ac) flows alternately forwa…rds and backwards, also varying its amplitude to a peak and returning to zero, at a definite frequency measured in cycles per second. (These are called "hertz", also abbreviated to Hz). The commonest frequencies for ac electricity supplied to homes and businesses are either 50 Hz or 60 Hz (50 or 60 cycles per second) which means that the ac current changes its direction either 100 or 120 times per second. Alternating current can be transformed, which means that its voltage can be increased or decreased, by using a transformer. Direct current can only be decreased and this is done by using a resistance. Direct current can also be converted into alternating current by using a vibrator (nowadays called an invertor ) which changes over its poles many times per second. Ancient radio receivers used a vibrator to be able use s transformer to transform the direct current of a battery into alternating current, making it possible to increase the basic dc battery voltage (6V) to 400V, as was required by the plate of a tube valve. Alternative Dispute Resolution ("ADR"), often referred to as "appropriate" dispute resolution, refers to a continuum of processes, such as conciliation, negotiation, arbitration, and mediation, used to manage conflicts between people and/or organizations before, during or after they have begun the li…tigation process. Mediation is often described as a facilitated negotiation where the disputing parties engage the services of an impartial third party (the mediator) to help them engage in a conversation that may lead to a mutually acceptable solution. Most mediators believe that ethical mediation incorporates the ideas of voluntariness in participation, confidentiality in process, self-determination as to whether and how to "solve" the problem, and mediator neutrality. Mediation often attends to both factual and emotional components to a conflict. This is a very brief description, and does not address substantial nuances and ethics of practice. An analog or analogue signal is any continuous signal for which the time varying feature of the signal is a representation in respect to other time varying quantity, i.e., analogous to another time varying signal. Any information may be conveyed by an analog signal often such a signal is a measur…ed response to changes in physical phenomena, such as sound, light, temperature, position, or pressure, and is achieved using a transducer. So, Analog signal is a medium to send information over distance ,the information cane be anything. The main disadvantage of Analog signals is they have larger noise . Alternating Current is defined as the behavior of Electric charge. Alternating Current is the movement of Electric current which is periodic and attains both positive and reverse direction (positive and negative) in its propagation whereas Direct Current only attains itself in one direction i.e positive cycle only. Difference Between Alternators and Magnetos . An alternator puts out alternating current [AC]. That means that part of the time electrons flow in one direction in the wiring, and part of the time the electrons flow in the opposite direction. The number of times the direction of current flow changes… direction is referred to as "cycles." . Even though the output of a magneto may be in pulses, the direction of flow of electrons is always in the same direction and is Direct Current [DC]. ( Full Answer )
To keep it simple, an alternator (like the one in a car) takes rotating mechanical energy and creates AC electricity. An inverter is usually just an electrical converter. It takes DC power (like the battery in a car, or camper) and produces AC electricity.
The difference between the null hypothesis and the alternative hypothesis are on the sense of the tests. In statistical inference, the null hypothesis should be in a positive sense such in a sense, you are testing a hypothesis you are probably sure of. In other words, the null hypothesis must be the… hypothesis you are almost sure of. Just an important note, that when you are doing a tests, you are testing if a certain event probably occurs at certain level of significance. The alternative hypothesis is the opposite one. Alternative rock is a kind of rock music, so, there is no difference. There's no such thing as just plain, "rock music," rather, there are dozens of different sub-genres: early rock, folk rock, psychedelic rock, classic rock, punk rock, glam rock, heavy metal, grunge, alternative, etc. And many of t…he sub-genres have their own sub-genres, like, thrash metal, black metal, progressive metal, Viking metal, speed metal are sub-genres of heavy metal, and proto-punk, post-punk, punk pop, hardcore punk, British punk, New York punk are all sub-genres of punk music. All of these sub-genres and sub-sub-genres can be called "rock music." Like, you can say that Nirvana is a rock band, or, you can be more specific and say they are a grunge band. You can say that Black Sabbath is a rock band, or, you can be more specific and say they are a heavy metal band. Or, you can say the Ramones are a rock band, or, you can be more specific, and say they are a punk rock band. It's sort of like, there's green M&Ms, red M&Ms, blue, orange, yellow, and brown M&Ms, but there are no "plain" M&Ms. See the Related Link below for the Wikipedia entry on alternative rock. An alternator or synchronous generator is a machine where the frequency of voltages induced, currents produced maintains the constant relation ship with the synchronous speed.
Alternating Current moves higher and lower 60 to 50 times a second. Like the ocean tide at the coast become higher and lower except at a much faster rate. Direct Current does not move up or down it is straight like the water in a lake.
the answer is this when i will go to to school so my teacher will tel me the answer and i will tell you thank you,
Direct current and Alternating both are diffrent . Alternating current changes it's cycle 50 times in both direction in one second while the direct current doesn't change it's phase or frequecncy because it is free from frequency or frequency less(direct current).
"Alternative Metal" is a name used to lump together several categories of what I simply refer to as false Metal. Their sound is derived from watered-down forms of Punk and Hardcore, and it basically serves as an extension of the late 90s nu-"metal", itself which was basically an extension of the ear…ly 90s Alternative Rock/Grunge scene. Thrash Metal is a blend of Heavy Metal and Hardcore Punk - many fans refuse to admit this, but D-Beat Hardcore played just as much a role in the formation of Thrash as Heavy Metal did. However, what separated Thrash from the early Metalcore bands (now commonly called Crossover in order to differentiate it from the so-called Metalcore of present day) was that Thrash tended to be a bit more seamless, whereas the Metalcore/crossover bands would have segments which were clearly Metal, and segments which were clearly Hardcore Punk. In metal conductors, both d.c. and a.c. current consist of rapid, chaotic, movement of free electrons. In a d.c. current, there is a tendency for individual electrons to move towards one end of the conductor (probably in millimetres per hour). In an a.c. current, there is a tendency for individual e…lectrons to match the direction of the alternating voltage applied to the conductor. Although, in both cases, the effect of the current is more-or-less instant along the entire conductor, the actual movement of individual electrons in either direction is very, very, slow, in comparison to their chaotic and random motion. How is the alternation of generations the same and how is it different between angiosperms and gymnosperms?
Alternation of generations is the same in all plants in the sense that during sexual reproduction gametophytic generation alters with the sporophytic generation. In angiosperms and gymnosperms the only difference is the presence of embryo sac in the ovule in place of archegonium in gymnosperms. Also… double fertilization takes place in angiosperms to have sporophytic endosperm, which remains gametophytic in gymnosperms. ( Full Answer )
