TOPO MAPS: They can help get a feeling for the geography in a certaint area (Ex: Rocky, Flat, ETC,). It also shows roads, so it can function as both.

ROAD MAPS: Exactly what the name states. It show roads that can provide help if lost or to check where you are.

  • The road map will have heavier lines for more important roads while the topographic map will attempt to have the width of the road on the map to scale and proportional to the actual width of the road in real life.
  • Intersections and important road features wil be prominent in the road map bu the topographic map will attempt to show the phusical reality.
  • The topographic map will have clear indication of elevations which are probably completely absent from the road map.
