This answer is so wrong. While they both have the same basic ingredients. The French Apple pie has a nutmeg and raisins. Also, the biggest difference is topping. French Apple does not have crumb topping. It has a thick vanilla glaze topping.

The best apples would be either Granny Smith or McIntosh apples.

Choose Jonathan, Jonagold, Winesap, or Pippin apples for a tart pie.

Choose Fuji, Pink Lady, Suncrisp, Rome Beauty, or Empire apples for a sweet pie.

A regular apple pie is a double crust pie, meaning it has both a top and bottom crust. A dutch apple pie has just the bottom crust, but a sugar, butter, flour, cinnamon crumble on top.

The standard recipes for a dutch and french apple pie are identical. This could vary slightly depending on who is making it I'm sure, but they appear to be exactly the same
