One difference between 'free' and 'absolutely free' would be an advertisement for a 'free' item, 'You just pay shipping and handling charges.'

Another case would be when a food can be labelled 'free of xxx' if it has only a certain amount of that ingredient. For example, if one serving contains less than 2 mg of cholesterol, it can be labeled 'cholesterol free'.

Absolutely free, on the other hand, really means zero!
