Gram was a scientist who invented a technique called Gram staining by which bacteria can be colorized and divided into two groups.
Gram positive
appearance: blue to transfer to purple
Structure: Have thick layer of peptidoglycan over inner cytoplasmic membrane.
They lack LPS-lipopolysaccharides.
Gram negative
appearance: pink to transfer to red
Structure: In gram negative bacteria the peptidoglycan layer is thinner and is located between space of the outer and inner cytoplasmic membrane.
The cell wall contains LPS, which make them virulent.
They have different cell walls.
Gram-positive bacteria have a peptidoglycan wall as their exterior. Peptidoglycan is a polymer that consists of sugars and amino acids. This wall forms in a mesh like formation of three layers of alternating material. Gram-positive bacteria are hardly ever dangerous do to the use of Penicillin. Penicillin stops the development of Petidoglycans with proteins. Some common Gram-positive bacteria are: B. Anthraces, B. Cereus, B. Moycoides.
Gram-Negative bacteria have a ipopolysaccharide exterior wall which is not effected by penicillin. Many gram-negative, in fact almost all, bacteria are pathogenic. Gram-negative also have five layers of alternating materials that make up its entire wall structure.
The gram negative or positive comes from the terms used to tell the two apart by staining them. A crystal violet dye solution is added to the bacteria to find it's type. Gram-negative turn reddish after removal of the dye, and gram-positive stay purple or blueish.

Compose the thick layer and another have a thin layer
No difference. Bacteria are living organisms.
the difference between bacteria and protoctist is that the protoctist have a necleus while the bacteria don't.... in other words the bacteria is a prokaryotes and the protoctist is a eukaryotes
bacterias have plasmids. but cyno-bacteria haven't plamids.
bacteria is plural and bacterium is singular
Whales are big and bacteria are small
spore and coccus bacteria
No archea to date have been found to cause disease. The other difference is that bacteria have ester linkages in their cell membranes while archea have ether linkages.
bacteria is a prokaryote while algae is a eukaryote
their name
The difference is that viruses are smaller than bacteria. One more major difference is that bacteria are living things whereas viruses are non living things.
Bacteria are not dependent on a host. :)
Bacteria are tiny living things. Some bacteria are good and some are not good. The difference between bacteria and a microbe, is a word used to describe tiny living things, which means that bacteria is a microbe, however, not all microbes are bacteria. A microbe can also be fungi, and protists, as well as bacteria.
