Gross anatomy deals with processes and organs that can be seen without the aid of instruments, such as a stomach, whereas microscopic anatomy deals with elements that can't be seen with the human eye, such as the tiny microvilli that line the rugae of the stomach wall.
The word "gross" in the term gross anatomy is used to indicate that which is large and not that which someone might find repulsive or disgusting. These large anatomical features, such as most bones and muscles, are visible to the naked human eye.

Microscopic anatomy as a term is rather self-explanatory, it indicates that anatomy which is not visible or discernable to the naked eye and must therefore be viewed with the aid of a microscope. This includes things that are too small as a whole to be seen with the naked eye, but also includes details of gross body parts which are not distinguishable without magnification.

For example, a femur bone, which is large and distinguishable, is gross. The individual bone cells, the rings of deposited minerals around them, the tiny networks of blood vessels running into and throughout bone tissue, and other microscopic details can be seen only with the use of magnification, and are therefore part of the microscopic anatomy of the same femur bone.
Gross anatomy (or macroscopic anatomy) is the study of structures of the human body that are observable with the naked eye or without the use of a microscope. Microscopic anatomy, which is usually either histology or cytology, is the study of tissues or cells which requires the use of a microscope to make out features/structures.

What is the area of anatomy?

It is a branch of biology and medicine which is the study of the structure of living things. The name comes from "ana" meaning to separate, and "tomy" meaning to cut. There are two main branches of anatomy, and they are gross anatomy and microscopic anatomy. Gross anatomy would be the study of the parts/organs and their functions, while microscopic anatomy would be the study of the cell structures of whatever organs.

Does the study of anatomy use microscopes?

Microscopic anatomy uses a microscope. It is formally called histology. You use it to see cells and tissues. You use gross anatomy to see things using tour eyes. You see muscles, bones and organs like the heart.
