Screen printing, or as it also known silk screening is a printing technique which is well matched for surfaces that are relatively flat. The core of the screen print process involves a fine mesh, or screen, which is stretched very tightly around an unyielding frame. Any area that is not to be printed, will be masked out on this screen or mesh. To create the print, the framed screen is positioned over the item to be printed along with a splodge of thick ink.

Digital printing: is printing from electronic data and not from film. The easiest digital printer is the one that you may have attached to your computer. The information that you print from your computer is all electronic data. There is no need for a master or printing plates.

This is a big difference from the offset printing that my grandfather used for his printing business. He would put together individual letters and blocks with engraved pictures where they would be run in his press with ink rollers applying ink directly to the type. That is a simplified description, but the set up for offset printing was time consuming and relatively expensive.
