Banks are incorporated under banking companies act but while as NBFC are incorporated under company act of 1956....Banks can issue cheques on its name but while as NBFC cannot do so.....Banks can accept deposit from general public contrary Nbfc cannot do the same.
NBFC stands for Non-Banking Financial Company. An NBFC is a financial company that provides services like mortgage loans, financial advisory services etc but does not provide banking services like saving/checking accounts, fixed deposits etc. NBFC's can provide any financial service but they cannot collect deposits from customers whereas Commercial banks can accept deposits. This way, they are different from regular banks.
The difference between the commercial banks and micro finance banks is in their functions and ability. The main difference is in the lending limits with micro finance banks having lower limits.
NBFCs are doing functions akin to that of banks, however there are a few differences: (i) a NBFC cannot accept demand deposits (demand deposits are funds deposited at a depository institution that are payable on demand -- immediately or within a very short period -- like your current or savings accounts.) (ii)deposit insurance facility of DICGC is not available for NBFC depositors unlike in case of banks. and (iii) it is not a part of the payment and settlement system and as such cannot issue cheques to its customers;
