Their chemical compound. Nitrogen has five electrons in its outer most orbit(orbit 2). Oxygen has six electrons in its outer most orbit(orbit 2). Nitrogan has an atomic number of seven, and makes up most of our breatheable air 75%. Oxygen only makes up 25% of our air and has an atomic number of eight. they are very similar.

What are likely to form an ionic bond magnesium and sulfur or nitrogen and oxygen?

Magnesium and sulfur are much more likely than nitrogen and oxygen to form an ionic bond, because the difference in electronegativity between sulfur and magnesium is much greater than the difference in electronegativity between nitrogen and oxygen. Another way of phrasing the reason is that magnesium is a metal and sulfur a nonmetal, while nitrogen and oxygen are both nonmetals.

What is the difference between nitrogen in the atmosphere and liquid nitrogen?

Liquid nitrogen is made by taking in air from the atmosphere and compressing and cooling it. Once it is cool enough, it forms a liquid. This liquid contains argon, oxygen and nitrogen. These elements are then separated and sold as a commodity. The temperature is the only difference.
