The difference is you are born into being a citizen but, in reality you are not born into patriotism. Patriotism is a love for your country and its beliefs, Citizenship means you are given rights to a country. In the US Pledge ofAllegiance it says " ONE nation under GOD" but, not all people in America believe in God. domestication is taming the wild, and nationalism is patriotism for one's nation.

Patriotism is an ingredient in citizenship, without patriotism, the government does not know how loyal you are, how willing you are to support it, and to fight for it. On another hand, you may be a citizen of a country but at the same time, the patriot of another. Hope this helped.
