when hypertension occurs without any evidence of any disease it is called primary hypertension while hypertension following some disease in the kidney,heart,drugs etc is called secondary hypertension.check this site for more information :

As is the difference in all primary-v-secondary -isms, primary stems from the gland/whatever itself, while secondary is caused by something outside the gland/whatever.

In this case, primary hyperthyroidism might be caused by a tumor, etc. Secondary hyperthyroidism (very rare) is caused by excessive TSH.
