So the difference would be cognition is an ability to learn, while psychology is an attempt for someone else to explain how someone thinks.

Social psychology happens to be my favorite out of all the courses I take at the University( I study psychology). Social psychology studies how other people (people who are actually there or people who are in our life but not in our immediate vicinity) can influence our behavior. for example, how commercials can change our attitudes and opinions. (this is just a small example though)
