Psychology examines more of the workings of the human mind, why persons think and behave as they do. Sociology tends to examine groups of persons (societies), communities, and nations. They might examine and discuss such things as folkways, mores, changes in populations, effects of events on entire communities, etc... So one way to look at it is that psychology is more about the individual or small group, and sociology is more about communities and larger groups of persons.Additional Response: Difference Between Psychology and Sociology
In addition, during studies of Psychology and Sociology, both are meant to benefit individuals and individuals/communities within society which inevitably would benefit the society as a whole. Personal perception of the Difference between Psychology and Sociology is that Psychology is optomistic (believing in a "cure") in that the individual may be helped so that the inidividual may function independently in personal relationships and within the communtiy appropriately. It seems as though Sociology, much needed, intervenes and assists individuals and families through the hardships and crises they face through continuous support as needed or deemed necessary. Simply, Psychology may be perceived as a goal toward independence, while Sociology might be perceived as the support necessary to sustain families and society. This is not to say the Sociology does not provide programs of support toward independence. It does. One example being parenting classes. Etiology is of importance to both, Psychology and Sociology. If you want a simple answer:

the area of expertise of a psychologist is psychology. Psychology is the scientific study of a person and their behaviors and mental processes. any field of employment like psychology would be considered a science or a history. sometimes it is considered both, actually. (: most of your social sciences and psychology are closely related, especially sociology. The difference in Psychology and Sociology is that Sociology studies groups of people. Psychology focuses on an individual(:
The difference between applied sociology and pure sociology is that pure sociology aims to find out "What is" about how society works, while applied sociology seeks to take what is learned in pure sociology and use it for solving practical (social) problems.
Psychology can be thought of as the study of behavior and mental process. Sociology, is like the psychology of society - the behavior of people within society, how society affects the mental process/actions of the each person.
Psychology is the science of human behavior and mind patterns- usually normal- like school psychologists might address study habits- and the possible influence of TV on the same. Sociology addresses social problems as a whole- such as, well alcoholism, poverty, political unrest..
Think group of people for sociology; think individual person for psychology. Of course, there is overlap.
