The difference is usually in the lyrics. Hip-Hop has hooks and repeating choruses while is more about flowing through and might not repeat any one line twice. For example, "A Milli" by Lil' Wayne is more of a rap song(although there is a repeating of words in the background of the song, that is more apart of the beat.) Kanye West's "Gold Digger" is more of a Hip-Hop song.

It used to be good until 2008, when Soldier Boy and Little Wayne came and ruined it and now most rap sucks and makes peoples stupid enough to think that there's a difference between rap and hiphop when really there isn't. and they also are dumb enough to think that rock and metal are the same thing when really there two different genres of music (espiacially now).
