Soil is the nutrient-rich top layer of the ground, suitable for growing plants. Wind is the large-scale movement of air across the planet.

Among obvious differences, the primary component of wind is gas, while soil is mostly solid. Wind is a component of weather, while soil is affected by weather. And wind can be a factor in soil depletion, while soil generally plays no part in determining the wind's speed or direction.
