On the reverse [tails] side of a coin there is a banner above the shield and the banner bears the motto "In God We Trust" Two varities of this were minted, the large motto and the small motto. Coins with the large motto are the most plentiful so the small motto is the more difficult one to find. To tell the difference, look at the first letter "T" in the word "TRUST". On the small motto the "T" is almost touching the fold in the banner, and on the large motto the "T" has a noticable space between it and the fold.

The easy way to tell the the difference is the ribbon for the Small Motto variety almost touches the rim, the large variety is noticeably farther away.
