A religion means nothing unless you take what is being taught and make it into a way of life. That is why people who say they are "religious" are also sometimes hypocrites. It is because they want to make one religion fit to their needs, but it just doesn't work that way. So to answer the question, religion and a way of life isn't really that different from each other it's just what you show others through good deeds that you define one or the other.
