The winter solstice occurs in the northern hemisphere when the north pole is tilted farthest from the sun, on Dec. 21. The summer solstice is when the north pole is tilted closest to the sun, on June 21.
The Equinoxes in spring and autumn occur when the equator points directly at the sun and days and nights are 12 hours long, Equally.
