(When working out) tension and weight work/lifting can be used to acheive seperate goals. Using weights of all sizes can build stregnth and muscle mass, using lighter weights to tone. When using tension or resistance bands (usually color coated to indicate applied pressure/ weight) the goal of stregnthening and toning muscles will be acheived but more emphasis on toning and muscle endurance rather than greatly increasing the size of the muscles. Restated: weight just as any form of exercise, including body weight exercises, will have the effect of stregnthening and toning and muscle growth. Tension increases stregnth and by the constant resistor the bands provide an increse in endurance can be seen that would be dissimilar to the alternative form of exercise.

How do you calculate tension of hanging object?

If the object hangs from a weightless string or thread, the tension in the thread is equal to the weight of the object. If there is weight distributed all the way from the ceiling to the bottom of whatever is hanging, then the tension at every point is equal to the weight of everything below that point.

What is the tension in a rope that is supporting a 4.2 kg bucket?

There are two forces acting on the bucket which are the Tension and the Weight. Tension is directed upward and Weight is directed downward. Since the bucket is either moving at constant velocity, or if its remaining still, the Tension would have to equal in magnitude to the weight. Weight = Fg = Mass(in kgs) times Gravity= 4.2 kg x 9.8 m/s^2=41.46 Newtons Tension would be equal to Fg, which means that Tension would also be 41.46 Newtons.
