"stand by" is the option when user want their system in stand by mode, but user programs will still running.

"Hibernate" is done by the system itself, it is when your battery power is very low, the system shutdown itself, and the system does not open until the battery will charged.

Stand by in windows is where the computer is still turned on and will resume when you want it to. Hibernate is where it saves your session (keeps what you are doing, yes everything) and then turns off the computer. When it is turned back on your session will be restored.

The seal migrates in winter, because it does not have a fur coat to keep it warm if it were able to hibernate, therefore the seal would freeze to death trying to hibernate. Plus, the seal needs to go into the water daily to keep its skin hydrated, so it must migrate in winter. It does not hibernate.
