To be considered alive, something must be composed of one or more cells. Unicellular organisms are composed of only one cell. Examples include bacterium and protists like the amoeba and paramecium. Multicellular organisms are composed of more than just one cell. Humans, for example, are composed of trillions of cells.

What has to happen to the one cell you all start out as in order to become the multi-cellular organism you are now?

Well, the cells must divide. As more dividing occurs, the cells will separate into different kinds of cell tissue that have the same function. From this, a multi-cellular organism is created. Also, by means of evolution, a multi-cellular organism could come about.
