Another name for Cyanobacteria is Blue Green Algae.But it is an old name used to call it.
Algae are protists. Protists are organisms in the kingdom Protist and made up of single or multiple cells which all contain a nucleus enclosed by a membrane. The protists are a diverse group of eukaryotes that cannot be classified as animals, plants, or fungi. Organisms in the Protista kingdom also include amoebae.
The primary producer is a marine algae called phytoplankton. This algae floats around in the sunlit areas of the Ocean giving it its name: phyto=plant, plankton=floating. It is the source of food for many fishes and is responsible for most of the world's oxygen.
