Actually, there are five types of hawks. Accipiters, like the Cooper's, sharp shinned and goshawks, are woodland hawks that feed primarily on birds. Buteos are large hawks that feed on rodents, snakes, and sometimes carrion. Falcons are fast flying hawks that feed on birds, rodents, and even insects in smaller species like the kestrel. Other falcons include the peregrine, prairie, and gyrfalcon. Eagles are closely related to the Buteo hawks, and include the bald, golden, and sea eagles and others. Eagles are normally larger than other Buteos.
Then there are the kites, graceful hunters with pointed wings, including the swallow tailed, snail, and Mississippi kites.
Finally, the northern harrier, a bird of open meadows that feeds mainly on rodents.

The first obvious difference is size. The eagles are full grown much larger than hawks.

A big male adult bald eagle can have a wing distance of eight feet whereas the largest hawks are less than five feet.

What does the mature bald eagle looks like? The mature bald eagle of course has a white head, the beak and un-feathered legs which are yellow, the wings are wide, and curved at the ends. the undersides of the wings are darker at the back and ends, dark gray to almost black, than the front ends and inner parts which are light gray, the tail is fan shaped and white on the bottom.

If you are talking about the golden eagles then they look something like this: The golden eagle has a golden brown head, the entire body is brown and it has feathered legs, front part of wing is darker than the primaries, and tail is fan shaped with white bars across.

Summary:

Eagles and hawks are basically the same; eagles are just larger hawks.

They are both in the same order called Falconiformes.

Hawks are mainly located within the Accipitridae family, which consists mostly of smaller diurnal Birds of Prey. Eagles are mostly grouped into the family Falconidae.

Members of the Falconidae family kill their prey with their beaks, as opposed to members of the Accipitridae family who kill with their talons.
