In the New Testament, the Apostle Paul perhaps summarizes the role of a woman and the reason for it:

1 Timothy 2:8-15New American Standard Bible (NASB)

8 Therefore I want the men in every place to pray, lifting upholy hands, without wrath and dissension.

Women Instructed9 Likewise, I want women to adorn themselves with proper clothing, modestly and discreetly, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly garments, 10 but rather by means of good works, as is proper for women making a claim to godliness. 11 A woman must quietly receive instruction with entire submissiveness. 12 But I do not allow a woman to teach or exercise authority over a man, but to remain quiet. 13 For it was Adam who was first created, and then Eve. 14And it was not Adam who was deceived, but the woman being deceived, fell into transgression. 15 But womenwill be preserved through the bearing of children if they continue in faith and love and sanctity with [e]self-restraint.

God designs humanity first just male via Adam as firstborn. Seeing this is 'not right' for man, He makes from the 'image of man' a woman (meaning out of man) as the perfect helpmeet or partner (not servant or slave or inferior being). He assigns 'roles' for each. Adam is to lead, protect and provide for the family while woman are to nurture, protect and provide but in a more modest way - by which they prove their submission to the will of God (not man), proving their claim to become godly - daughters in the God Family.

There are many 'wise' writings on this subject matter and some that many use to 'divide' men and women - Satan's way. Here is one I particularly like:

In Matthew Henry's Commentary on the Whole Bible, he notes wisely in my opinion, that God does not use a bone from man's head in order for man to rule over woman nor out of his feet so a man can trample over the woman "but out of his side to be equal with him, under his arm to be protected, and near his heart to be beloved."
