I come into contact with baby skunks on a daily basis at a park which I visit. They are approximatey 6-8 weeks old and are quite adorable. I have noticed that even when I am within a couple of feet of them, they make no defensive gestures as do adult skunks I have encountered in the past. There is no foot stamping or tail raising--they simply run away when I get too close. So----not wanting an unpleasant surprise---I would really like to know at what age they are armed and ready. Thanks.
A skunk has had scent glands ever since birth. But it learns how to spray from it's mother.
A skunk can naturally live for up to 10 years. And, sometimes, maybe longer.
Skunks are ready to mate at about one year of age. Until that time, they usually remain with their mothers.
a skunk might spray a little gas when it dies
No. Skunk spray is not flammable. It is a mixture of sulfur containing chemicals.
Yes, they can - any skunk of appropriate age (3 weeks or older) can spray.
Skunk spray is not necessarily "made". Skunk spray is a liquid or gas like substance that is produced in the glands for defending themselves which is why they spray.
No.
It smells bad, like a skunk spray.

Yes.
they spray
Skunks spray such a powerful spray of horrible odors, that a Lynx would not hunt a skunk. If it did try to, they skunk would spray it. The lynx's attack would be foiled and it would never repeat that mistake.
