the embargo was confided into law in 1992 with the stated purpose of maintaining sanctions on Cuba so long as the Cuban government continues to refuse to move toward "democratization and greater respect for human rights

so pretty much because Cuba is a communist country america refused trade because the didn't approve of it... america tried one time to relieve Cuba from communism and failed terribly lol.. so they didn't want anything to do with them... if Cuba would trade communism for democracy then america will lift the embargo act and life would be happy :) ---- jessie <3
