the embargo was confided into law in 1992 with the stated purpose of maintaining sanctions on Cuba so long as the Cuban government continues to refuse to move toward "democratization and greater respect for human rights
so pretty much because Cuba is a communist country america refused trade because the didn't approve of it... america tried one time to relieve Cuba from communism and failed terribly lol.. so they didn't want anything to do with them... if Cuba would trade communism for democracy then america will lift the embargo act and life would be happy :) ---- jessie <3
why was the embargo on cuba?
The United States established a trade embargo against Cuba on October 19, 1960. The embargo does not include exports for medicine and food.

Cuba
the embargo stupid!
When Fidel Castro seized American businesses in Cuba, the US broke off all diplomatic relations with Cuba. On October 19, 1960, the US imposed a trade embargo against Cuba on everything except food and medicine. On February 7, 1962, the embargo was extended to include all imports. The embargo still stands today.
As far as I am aware, the only country that America has an embargo against is the island of Cuba, and not Columbia.
