You need to call Colt
You will have to call Colt to find out.
address col sam colt new-york us america
CVA stands for Conneticut Valley Arms. You have a reproduction of a Colt.
With any colt of that age and also that it is engraved along with who has done the engraving, you would be much better served to have your firearm appraised by a pro.especially one who deal,s with the older models such as yours.I would also write to the colt factory and get a letter from them stating when it was made who did the engraving and when was the firearms shipped and to who! this is usually costing about 100 dollars, but it is money well spent.
You need to seek the services of a qualified appraiser.
That would depend on Mr. Ormsby's reputation in the engraving community, whether it was done at the factory or after market and overall condition of the piece.
why not get a local engraver ??????
You will need to get a letter from Colt. They cost between 100-300 USD depending on exactly what you have.
I suggest your read any writting on the barrel top. if it says anthing like 'italy', then it is a reproduction. If it has colt and a location it might be original...........
