The air pressure on Mars is only.7 - .9 kilo pascals. This is only about 1/100th the air pressure on earth. The average temperature on Mars is -46'C. Life as we know it could not exist under these conditions. Adding a heat-retaining atmosphere to Mars might work for a short time but the planet has only 1/10th the mass of earth and would soon lose most of it, so it wouldn't be worth the effort if it could be done at all.
