THE SIMPLE ANSWER IS: 09/23/2010.
However, according to the U.S. Naval Observatory, the autumnal equinox (Autumn) begins on 09/23/2010 at 03:09 AM UTC (Universal Time Coordinated formerly known as Greenwich Mean Time).
But I live the Eastern Time Zone which is 5 hours behind UTC. So technically Autumn for my time zone begins on 09/22/10 at 10:09 PM.
It may be fine line, and therefore for the sake of simplicity and uniformity I am guessing that most calendars will simply show Autumn beginning on 09/23/10.

The answer to this depends on which definition of autumn is being used. In the northern hemisphere, the astronomical autumn begins September 23 at the time of the autumnal equinox. This date is sanctioned by the World Meteorological Organization for the northern hemisphere and never changes. The ecological autumn begins locally whenever the leaves change colour and start to fall. This date varies from one region to another and can shift from one year to the next.

For the northern hemisphere, Autumn normally begins on September 22, but sometimes it can begin on September 23.
