This is a story from 1001 Arabian nights, about a man who could understand the speech of animals.
The horse ridiculed the ass for working so hard while he (the horse) did no more than get ridden into town. He advised the ass to fend sickness and get out of work. The master hearing this lavished attention on the ass and hooked the horse up to the plow, told the workers to be sever with him. That night the horse reversed his influence and talked the ass back into labour with the suggestions of the slaughter house. There's more to the story concerning the man's wife and chickens....
