It is always up to that individual, and you should respect what they chose to eat or not to eat and understand that they have made the choice for themselves. If you would like to bring the idea of becoming vegetarian to your freind, you could mention some of the benefits. Some of thsoe would be a healthier diet without the fat from meats, and that you can potentialy save dozens or even hundreds of animals.
