What happens to the characters after the last episode of the Last Airbender?

During the last four episodes of the series, Sozin's Comet is coming the next day. Aang and the rest of the team are on Ember Island, practicing his fire bending with Zuko. Aang has vanished from the rest of the group during the night, they try to find him in the morning when they realize he's gone but are unsuccessful. He has sleep walked himself onto a large island that for some reason is actually moving in the water, he stays there for quite some time (till the next day) while he's there he contacts several Past Lives in attempts to find some resolve in what he is being told to do, take a life, the Fire Lord's. They all tell him he must take the Fire Lords life in order to restore balance to the world, and that it is due justice for his crimes. After he hears from a Water Avatar, Fire Avatar, and Earth Avatar, he is not satisfied with what they say, so he tries contacting an Air Avatar, thinking that they might understand the position he's in better, she tells him that indeed all life in sacred, and that the monks have taught him well, Aang explains to her that it is against the Air Nomads ways to take a life, and that he must detach himself from the world to gain spiritual happiness, she explains to Aang that indeed many great Air Nomads have detached themselves from the world, and done so, but that the Avatar must never do this, for the Avatar's soul duty is to the world. She explains to him that it is the only way. The scene ends there and Aang finally.. though with a heavy heart, accepts that he must kill the Fire Lord.

In an attempt to get off the island and find out where he is, he jumps into the water, being without his staff to fly, and he discovers that the island is actually a Lion Turtle (a large animal that moves through the ocean, that looks very much like a island, with the body of a large lion, but that part of the body is only visible underwater), and confronts him of the situation he is in, and asks him for advice, the Lion Turtle gives him these words "The true mind can weather all the lies and illusions without being lost. The true heart can touch the poison of hatred without being harmed. Since beginning less time, darkness thrives in the void, but always yields to purifying light. Wait for him, he will come" he touches Aang's forehead with one of his claws, and a green light flashes.

Later in the morning of the next day, the team of Sokka, Katara, Toph, Zuko, Suki, and Appa figure Aang will come back, and now that is the the day of the Comet, they will go on with the plan and head towards the fleets of Fire Nation ships that threaten to destroy the Earth Kingdom, Zuko and Katara go to Azula, who is about to be crowned Fire Lord, and Sokka, Toph, and Suki set out of get rid of the fleets of ships that travel with the Fire Lords ship, leaving that one for Aang when they figure he comes back. Over on Zuko and Katara's end, they confront Azula and Zuko tells her that she will indeed not become Fire Lord, and that he will. She laughs, and challenges him to an Agni-Kai, in order to separate him from Katara, knowing that she can't take them both, winner becomes Fire Lord. Zuko accepts, and Katara is worried about him facing her alone. They battle for many scenes. Meanwhile back on the other end, the Fire Nation's attack fleets have started their onslaught, with incredible power, due to the Comet, the solders Fire Bend from the ships, reigning down on the Earth Kingdom land. Sokka, Toph, And Suki and managed to destroy several ships, by taking a single one over, and crashing one into the whole fleet, knocking them off like dominoes.

Aang has come back and has used Earth Bending on a pillar of rock, to destroy the Fire Lords ships engine, he is angered and jets down to Aang on another pillar on rock near him using Fire Bending to propel him, as if like flying. They are in a rocky mountain plain type landscape.

They go back to the fight with Zuko and Azula, they are still fighting vigorously, Zuko yells out to Azula, questioning her why she is not using Lightning, and accusing her of being afraid that he'll redirect it. She gladly gives him lightning, Zuko prepares to redirect, the screen freezes as Azula instead targets Katara, the lets her lightning go, Zuko scream out, and jumps into the lightning, he manages to redirect most of the strike into the sky, but still suffers injures, and is left on the ground, in pain, he cannot fight..

Back to Aang and the Fire Lord, they fight without mercy, and Aang seems to be losing. The Fire Lord begins to use Lightning on Aang, he flees his attacks, then he comes to a lightning strike he cannot evade, he struggles, but manages to redirect it, he points his finger out to the Fire Lord, and the screen freezes for a split second, showing the Fire Lords fear as Aang is about to redirect his lightning to him. Aang fails, he still does not want to take his life, he quickly turns his hand away and lightning turns the sky blue above them, with great power. The Fire Lord continues his attack on the Avatar, then Aang surrounds himself in a rock ball, scared for his life, since he will not kill him. The Fire Lord attacks the ball of rock many times, but Aang sustains it from breaking.

Finally the Fire Lord blasts the ball of rock open, and Aang in lunged back into the rocky mountain-side behind him, he back is struck by pointy rocks purging out from the mountain wall behind him, he then sees a vision of all the past Avatars, and Aang enters the Avatar State The Fire Lord tries to grab him out of the rubble, but instead Aang grabs his beard, the Fire Lord goes to strike him with his hand, with fire bending, but Aang uses his other hand and easily pushes his hand into the air, releasing fire above them, Aang then does a few hand movements, and knocks him far away and into the wall the the mountain. Aang rises up in a bubble of swirling air, and calls upon his other elements, next, a ring a fire surrounds him, then rocks begin to circle around him, next water creates a ring around him as well. The battle continues and Aang has the upper hand now, the Fire Lord is constantly fleeing his attacks, they go on for a long time, Aang flying around in his bubble of elements, trying to catch the Fire Lord as he flees.

Back with Katara, she is now fleeing numerous lightning attacks from Azula, they are in a courtyard, and Katara spots a statue of someone with chains hanging from them, Katara grabs them, and lures Azula over to her, she in now standing under a water source, a sewer type thing except with clean water, that flows underground, separated by a sheet of wood, with small holes big enough for her to see the water beneath her, she confronts Azula with the chains behind her back, then.. she quickly springs into action, surrounding the chains with water and controlling them, trying to hit Azula with them, Azula evades the attack and right as she is about to strike Katara she raises her arms, pulling water up from beneath them freezing the water as it comes up, both of them are now frozen in a large block of ice, Katara breathes into the ice, and turn's it into water, leaving Azula incapable of moving, Katara sustains the water in the air, and swims over near Azula and chains her arms to a metal latch coming from the ground, she then releases the water back down into the waterway. Azula struggles to get out of the chains that bind her but is unsuccessful, and is left crying from her insanity, in rage breathing fire from her mouth, sturggling in the chains, Katara then hurries over to the almost-yet-not-unconscious Zuko, she surrounds his Lightning wounded chest with water, healing him, it works. Zuko thanks her.

Back with Aang, he is still trying to catch the Fire Lord, for a second he trying attacking him, and sends out three huge pillars of fire towards him, Aang sends out three tiny amounts of water and a large pillar of air towards the Fire Lord, the three streams of water dive into the three pillars of fire heading towards him, and blow away the fire as if it wasn't even there in the first place, the pillar of air he sent towards him then knocks him into a pillar of rock, and is then rebounded from there into the air, the pillar of air that Aang released is so strong it destroys the rock pillar causing it to fall. The Fire Lord continues to flee, and Aang finally catches up to him, and uses water to put out his jets of fire coming from his feet, and surround him in water, he then whips him around a bit while in the water, and finally smashes him into the top of a rock pillar, uses earth bending to bind his arms and legs the then closes down on him while in his bubble of element, and says "Fire lord Ozai, you and your forefathers have devastated the balance of this world, now you will pay the ultimate price!" he gathers up a serpent type stream of power containing all the elements, and is about to strike Ozai with it..

The power dissolves into nothing but a splash of water over his head, and Aang's elemental bubble around him slowly dissolves into nothing, and Aang exits the Avatar State. then says "I won't do it.." Ozai then says "Even with all the power in the world.. you are still weak!" he goes to strike Aang, and the screen freezes for a second, then resumes with Ozai about to strike, Aang raises rock from beneath them and uses it to bind his hand before he can strike, he then goes to the other side of him and Ozai tries to attack him with he's other hand, Aang does the same with that arm, and binds it, he then stands in front of Ozai, lowers the earth binding his hands down, so that Ozai is now on his knees, he then places his hands on Ozai, one hand on his chest, and one on his face. Then.. blue light started to cover every inch of Aang's body, Ozai's body then starts to glow like Aang's only instead in the colour of Red, the two lights start glowing beyond their body's and out into the sky, then the screen zooms out to show the divided lights, one half of the screen is filled with red light, and the other with blue. Then Aang hears the words in his head, in the Lion Turtle's voice "In the era before the Avatar.. we bend not the elements, but the energy within ourselves. To bend another's energy, your own spirit must be unbendable, or you will be corrupted, and destroyed." Ozai's red glow starts to seep onto Aang, covering his body, like an infection it crawls it's way up to Aang's head, and with his entire body almost turning completely red, the colour starts closing in on his eye.. The screen zooms out to show that everything is completely Red, except for the tiniest ray of blue in the middle, then just as Aang's body is also completely taken over by Ozai's glow, he bursts his head up, and in an instant, Aang repels the corruption, and turns Ozai entirely Blue, then.. a blue pillar of light beams into the sky, then.. the sky that was once turned red due to the Comet, has now been turned back into blue. Aang has removed Fire Lord Ozai's fire bending, he is a threat no longer. As he lay on the rock pillar almost unconscious, Aang calmly enters the Avatar State, and uses water bending, and the rivers in the Earth Kingdom land to put out the fire left by the fleets of ships all at once.

Aang meets back up with Sokka, Toph, and Suki, and later with Zuko and Katara. They are still in the Fire Nation. In the palace Zuko is greets by Mai.. who takes him back, but warns him never to break up with her again, and helps him but on his ropes. He exits his chambers, and talks with Aang about the past, and how he used to hunt him down.. and that their friends now, they hug. He exits the palace, and is on a balcony, and is greeted by many people, of all elements. He is then crowned Fire Lord. He explains to them that he is not the real hero, and presents to the crowds, the Avatar, they all cheer very loud for the new found peace. Zuko then gives a speech "Today, this war is finally over. I promised my Uncle that I would restore the honor of the Fire Nation, and I will. The road ahead of us is challenging. A hundred years of fighting has left the world scarred and divided. But with the Avatar's help, we can get it back on the the right path, and begin a new era of love and peace." The scene ends there. They're are now in the teams house in the Earth Kingdom, Zuko is passing out tea to everyone, and Sokka is trying to paint a picture of everyone at the front of the room, as they move about, to try and "remember the good times". Katara and Aang step out onto the balcony and stare at each other for awhile.. then share a long hug, then stare at each other for another long while, then for the first time out of the so far two Aang-Katara kisses, Katara comes in for the kiss this time, and.. they kiss. The screen moves on into the horizon, pauses for a few moments. Then the credits roll.

The Avatar: The Last Airbender animated series has ended.

~ Conclusion ~

Aang defeats the firelord without killing him. There is great peace in the lands. Aang and Katara most likely are together now. Sokka has lost his space sword. Sokka and Suki are together. Toph is.. Toph. Zuko has become Fire Lord. Zuko and Mai are together. And Azula has been placed in an Mental Facility and is being montered 24/7.

Zuko becomes firelord, Azula gets locked in a mental hospital, ozai is in prison, aang and katara make out, and zuko and aang promise to reconstruct the world

Then Katara finds out that she likes Zuko still secretly and Aang finds them making out in the war room. (which is no longer necessary room I mean.) but we don't see them making out in the war room. we might in the Legend of korra

Okay, basically, Zuko and Azula have an Agnei-Kai, (at least I think that's how you spell it) or a firebending duel. And Zuko becomes badly injured, but Katara heals him. Katara ends up defeating Azula by putting her in handcuffs and Azula goes into mental shock because nothing is perfect for her anymore. After a troubling battle, Aang ends up defeating the firelord by taking away his bending. Epic, right? Anyway, Sokka, Toph, and Suki stop the fire nation airsheep fleet by crashing them all into eachother. Sokka breaks his leg but everyone is okay! Aang and Zuko promise to reunite all the nations and after that thw whole gang come together where Sokka attempts to make a portrait of everyone but fails...badly. And yes, at the very end, Aang and Katara "make out". I hope this helps!
