Three classes of fire are recognized by the National Fire Protection Association.
Insurance Services Office (ISO) surveys fire departments and sets the fire protection classes. You can get the protection class from your local fire department or the local government. You can also get it from a local insurance agent.
4/9
The fire protections classes are set and regulated by a company called ISO (Insurance Services Office). The classes are determined by an auditor coming and investigating the equipment of the local fire department, response time and results of the past fires in the area, and water pressure and fire plugs throughout the community.
To learn further about any fire protction classes offered by the county, please contact the fire department. You can contact the Fire Delartment at their non-emergency number at (706)-782-2336. Note that to phone number listed will go to the Fire Department located in the Town or Tiger (Rabun County), Georgia.
A list of all protection classes in Florida is probably not going to be available, at least not for free. You can however find out the protection class for your home or an area by contacting the responding fire department.
Four classes of fire from a fire science perspective are: Incipient, growth, fully developed, decay.
Call your fire department or local government. ISO (Insurance Services Office) handles inspection and rating of fire department but it is often easier to get the information from the fire department or local government. Note that your rating may be a combination of two number such as 6/9. This means that if you are within 5 files of a fire department AND 1,000 feet of a fire hydrant then the protection class is 6 but if BOTH of these don't apply then your protection class is a 9.
Fire Protection Publications was created in 1973.
Fire Protection Association was created in 1946.
Call your city hall or fire department and they will know what the protection class is for your city. If you are over 1000 feet from a hydrant but withing 5 miles of a fire department you are class 9. If you are over 5 miles from a fire department then you are a class 10.
