The name of the island was Hispaniola or La Española which was a temporary name given back in the days to avoid conflicts but now Both owners of the island Republic of Haiti and Dominican Republic have agreed to call the island Santo Domingo which also happens to be the name of the capital of Dominican Republic which is now called Santo Domingo de Guzman, Distrito Nacional. Haiti is still to make the change in their constitution which will clear up the name confusion by others.

Short bio: Ernani Joson Cuenco a native of Malolos City was a cellist, violinist and pianist in training from University of the Philippines and Unviersity of Santo Tomas. He was a member of the Philippine Symphony Orchestra. He was given the National Artist Award for his contribution in music. He composed Gaano Ko Ikaw Kamahal for his wife the late Nena Marshall from Cebu City When first published the cover was the photo of his beloved wife Nena. Nani and Nena are survived by two sons, a trumpeter and a singer/event planner.
