The pathway of taste starts with taste buds located on the tongue and other parts of the mouth. These taste buds contain taste receptor cells that detect different taste qualities (sweet, sour, salty, bitter, umami). When these receptor cells are stimulated, they send signals to the brain via the gustatory pathway, which involves cranial nerves and taste processing areas in the brain, allowing us to perceive taste.
The cast of Nina and the Neurons - 2007 includes: Katrina Bryan as Nina James Dreyfus as Felix the Touch Neuron Kelly Harrison as Belle the Sound Neuron Patrice Naiambana as Luke the Sight Neuron Siobhan Redmond as Ollie the Smell Neuron Sharon Small as Bud the Taste Neuron
Taste buds are clusters of Taste Receptor Cells (TRC). The taste buds contain pores that open enabling the molecules we put into our mouth to reach the TRC inside. The TRCs communicate to the brain through a sensory neuron by an ATP releasing synapse.
The gustatory pathway has a more complicated course. There are more fiber tracts involved in the transmission of the neural impulses for taste. The facial nerve transmits gustatory signals or messages from the anterior two-third of the tongue. However, for the posterior one-third of the tongue, the glossopharyngeal nerve is responsible for the transmission of the gustatory signals along the pathway.

No, you need taste buds, not saliva to taste food.
You have to taste it first. it is a organic compound.
My First Taste of Texas was created on 1983-01-17.
I guess smell. What is there to taste?
Bipolar neurons is a neuron that has two extensions. They are specialized sensory neurons and are part of your sense of smell, sight, taste, hearing, and vestibular functions.
