The first stage in transition is to speak to a therapist about your feelings, and your expectations from transition. From there, your therapist will advise you on the steps to take in order to further your transition, assuming you want to.

However, most TG persons don't transition. They simply dress and present as the other sex without needing genital surgery like most transsexual persons do. They may see therapists, take hormones, or get minor procedures (face or breasts), but that is usually as far as they go. Transsexual persons have a need to go all the way and to assimilate into the Mainstream, not partially transition and resign themselves to living as a TG.
