Protein synthesis occurs in two steps, transcription and translation. 1. During ranscription, the mRNA makes a copy of the DNA by making a complimentary strand according to the base-pairing rule.

2. During transcription, the mRNA moves to a ribosome in the cytoplasm. Then tRNA brings amino acids from the cytoplasm to the ribosome, where a polypeptide chain will form.
