There is no single formula for gasoline. It is made up of the odds and ends of the distilling pocess with the goal to make it burn as if it had a composition similar to octane. In general the content is hydrocarbons with between 4 and 12 carbon atoms per molecule (commonly referred to as C4-C12). The mixture changes over the course of the year so that colder month have more loghter ends like butane for easier starting. Aromatics are added for a higher octane rating. Complex metal compounds and detergents may be added (additive package) to propmite a higher octane number, promote cleaner burning or determine the ignition pattern.
