Usually I see fox Squirrels all around my street. I usually see them gathering nuts and putting them in a tree. My guess is they live in a tree.

Chipmunks and ground squirrels have cheek pouches, grey and fox squirrels do not. Squirrels who live in trees don't have cheek pouches.

Squirrels disappear from habitat so they can migrate or sometimes they gather a bunch of nuts and they store the nuts in a hole and in the winter they stay in a tree and when they get hungry they get some of their nuts.
I saw one which I believe is a Fox Squirrel in South Burlington Vermont
