In Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet," Friar Laurence is afraid that his plan to fake Juliet's death and reunite her with Romeo will not go as planned. He worries that unforeseen circumstances or mistakes could lead to tragedy, which does happen in the end.

Friar Lawrence is afraid that the parents will kick up a stink if they know that he has performed the ceremony behind their backs, especially since the other party to the marriage is from the rival family.

∙ 7y agoWell, just about everything. For example, in the last scene he abandons Juliet because he is afraid of the watch, thus allowing her to kill herself. He does not reveal that Juliet is already married, even when Paris comes to arrange a wedding, because he is afraid that the families will be mad at him for marrying her to Romeo.
