The chicken's wings have four main functions.

1) - a baby chicken will flap it's wings to ensure a soft landing when failing from hight.

2) - a grown chicken will flap it's wings to jump / fly over small obsticals like a small fence or a ditch.

3) - chicken flap their wings in an attempt to scare off predators.

4) - the main function for chicken wings in today's society is for eating. Chickens have been breed by human because they don't fly, lay eggs and taste fantastic when deep fried.
